I am pleased to present my first guest blogger, Christine from A Typical Thursday!
Random fact: I call her “Hayley” because she has/had {awesome} bright red hair like Hayley Williams of Paramore. 🙂
This isn’t a typical post for the UltraViolet Catastrophe blog, but I asked Christine to guest-post and she was so sweet to try super-hard to keep it clean…which really means a lot to me (thanks Hayley!!!). It’s an interesting post including 50 Shade of Grey, Disney Princesses and Vampire Diaries.

Barbara has granted me the amazing opportunity to do an exclusive guest post on her blog, and I am so honored! When I was musing along for inspiration, Barbara told me to write about anything; “It could be general tips, your adventures as a blogger, a craft project, style, beauty tips, anything really as long as it’s family friendly.” So, then it kinda hit me and the little light bulb inside my head went off. I love those moments! I digress, I began thinking about my adventures as a blogger, and entertainment is one of my favorite topics to write about. For example, I love to gush about The Vampire Diaries, but since the show has taken a brief hiatus, I need a new obsession to occupy the little free time I have left. I’ve finally jumped on the Fifty Shades of Grey train, and I finally understand what all the buzz is about!

I have to keep this G rated so I won’t get into any details, but I would just like to take a minute to talk about Prince Charming and what he’s become these days. What happened to our Prince Erics and our Aladdins? Is chivalry really dead? I’d say that the new knight in shining armor no longer rides up on a valiant, white steed, but rather a blazing, black stallion. He is no longer a generous and hospitable Prince Adam, but rather a forceful and all-consuming Beast, metaphorically speaking.

My connection between these tangents happens to be the anti-hero in the Fifty Shades trilogy, Christian Grey. The book itself has been a controversial topic in current events, but all things aside, Christian is the epitome of the smoldering, bad boy, anti-hero persona. Ladies across the nation, myself included, have fallen in love with him, despite his “extracurricular activities.” He possesses none of the gentlemanly qualities of your average male protagonist, yet he manages to charm his loyal female attendants.

Christian Grey reminds me very much of another one of my favorite smoldering, all-consuming anti-heroes…Damon Salvatore of The Vampire Diaries. Yes, it may sound cliché, but there is just something about tall, dark and handsome…well, in this case, Damon is a bit on the pale side, but that is simply irrelevant. Stefan, the good, caring, kind brother is such a perfect match for Elena, yet so many ladies have fallen under the devilish, persuasive, impulsive spell of Damon Salvatore. Ladies, have we given up on the “hearts and flowers,” as Mr. Grey would put it; typical protagonist qualities for the danger and suspense of the anti-hero? Or is it the crazy possibility of attaining both that really hooks us?

I’m not really sure myself, but I want your thoughts on it! Do you think chivalry is really dead? Do you believe that nice guys finish last? Prince Charming or Anti-Hero?

And just because I believe that my boyfriend is living proof of the Disney prince I was always searching for, I’d like to know what your inner child’s favorite Disney prince is, or favorite hero/protagonist/etc. is!

P.S. Don’t forget to stop by my blog to see more posts like this and others at http://atypicalthursday.blogspot.com/.

Thanks “Hayley!”
